I have been a faithful Safeway shopper for ages. The shops are clean and well stocked. The workers are friendly, and the rates are competitive with comparable shops in the region. When I kept hearing from family and friends that a local discount grocery shop supplied unbeatable savings, I place it to the evaluation.

Costco is our regional discount grocery shop. It is a bag-your-own-groceries shop but NOT a dented-can type shop where the item variety varies widely based on what their buyers could locate at deep discounts. Costco Clearance is a full size supermarket stocked with the very same products that you find at Safeway, Von’s, Kroger, Publix, Wegman’s and many others.
I shopped in Costco this week with grocery list in hand, just as I would have at my regional Safeway. Then I carefully compared Costco’s price for every product to Safeway’s price as mentioned on their site, such as Safeway’s club reductions. It turned out to be a fair evaluation; I contrasted manufacturer name to brand name and house brand to home brand as suitable. My total in Costco was92.02. The Safeway total would have been $134.45, a gap of $42.43 or 32 percent.
Safeway’s costs for meats and cheeses were approximately the same as people in Costco. The largest savings came anywhere else at the shop. . .pretty much across the board. The average savings each thing was 72 cents. Envision saving 72 cents on average for each and every thing that you place in your cart. In spite of eggs and milk, where I anticipated Safeway to be somewhat aggressive, there were several substantial differences.
A couple of examples: Gallon milk in Costco was $1.98 and $2.49 in Safeway. 18-count eggs were1.89 in Costco and $3.35 in Safeway. A two-pound bag of carrots was 88-cents in Costco and $2.00 in Safeway. Salsa was2.73 in Costco and $3.99 at Safeway. The list goes on.
